I like the way these photographers have done their photos and the city or railway lines or reflection of mirrors or parts cut off I like those sort of images and I think they look better than a lot of other ways to frame an image.

CONTEXT
Wilfried Haubenberger is a 24 year old man who has been photographing sines he was 17 all over the worlds UK,USA,China India etc. He has won a few awards for his impeachable work and dedication he took this photo because he always enjoyed doing frame images with his hand and framing particular objects.
"sub-framing is a composition technique in photography, where you put the subject or an object in a frame within the image. You can frame it with lines, other objects, out of focus areas, light and shadow areas to name a few.
I like to use sub-framing in my street photography to provide a more interesting point of view or show a bit of context. In general I want to create more visually interesting images and I like juxtaposing people with their environment. Framing interesting people or situations within their environment, especially other moving objects, just adds another layer to the idea of capturing a unique moment." information sourced from internet.

COMPOSITION
The composition is very good to me, my eyes are instantly drawn directly on the boat due to it being lighter than anything in the photograph and the way the hand frames it helps further enhances the boat. Then my eyes look around at the hands and the water I look at the textures and ripples in the water and then I notice the neon sign above saying "world telegram" then I take the whole image in. The photographer has layered many things in this image for example his hand are in the foreground the boat is in the midground then the neon signs is in the background. The boat has been put in the center of the image to me I think its making it important or showing its the focal point of the photograph. The sky scrapers are in the back and the water and the docks are at the front. The hands are placed in front of the camera very neatly and carefully creating a square which makes a frame.
The hands have been placed in the top left and bottom right corners of the image and they connect in the middle by thumb and finger creating a square. The image is black, white and shades of grey tones. The boat appears the brightest as it is white making it brighter than the rest of the image.
The rule of thirds has been used as I feel that the finger and thumbs fall on the sweet spot because if there was a grid to be placed on top of the image that's where it would be.
The building in the middle of the image creates a horizontal line going from left side to right side to me breaks up the image in to thirds water, building then skyscrapers and a little bit of light grey sky.
I feel as though the use of hands framing the boat could represent the square windows on the sky scrapes in the background as if its showing what the people in the building would see from there window.

This links to my work because my theme is framing, the use of framing with the hand will inspire me in the future to do the same sort of style for my shoots. However I will have to use different objects as my focal point as I will not be able to capture the same scene that has been captured in this image. I may also use real frames as I like the idea of capturing a landscape or city scape in a picture frame.
comment
I really like the look of the image, the photographer also has a good website which is easy to understand and helped me gain inspiration for my future shoots. The use of black and white and the way he has further enhanced certain areas I am a fan of and would like to replicate his style in my work.

composition
I like the photo setting she has used with the changed colors and I like the outdoor setting and I like the time of day it suits it in the afternoon looking like it may rain and the sort of cropping with the frame so your mind ignores the black and white and focuses on the center.
The leading line in this image I feel is the grey path that goes from the front of the image to the back of the image creating a vanishing point. I like how it goes from grey to brown with green grass on ether sides as it reaches the middle of the image then disappears into the background. The image is capturing two different compositions as you can speak about the image as a whole then the image in the frame. The use of a real frame creates the focal point for the house and the image captured inside the frame where the composition of the tree is in the right hand corner creating a silhouette of a tree which is placed next to a red brick house. Then when I look at the image as a whole the image is made up of the hand in the foreground the frame and grass mid ground then sky is background. The trees are on the right hand side of the image which could also be seen as leading line towards the tree and the house.
The image has ben captured at eye level as the person holding the frame is looking at it directly in front of them.
I also think that this image is a metaphor for climate change because the world around us is all black and grey and the frame is showing what the world once looked like being vibrant and colorful.

I will use this sort of image for my work, the theme of using a frame to draw peoples eye in. The way the image is not all in colour is different from other photographers that I have researched this is why I have chosen this image. I like the contrast of black and white with areas of colour this has helped inspire me with ideas for my own project. It has also given me an idea for other images like inverting it so black and white are inside of the frame instead of being on the outside. I will use this style of photography in my project.
comment
I really like this image because I like the sort of story it tells with the rest of the world being black and white but the frame around the house with colour like the person is black and white to the world but full of color when at home giving a sense of warmth.

shoot 1
This is my best image because the frame is exactly how I want it and it is standing up straight and is in focus.
|
This is my worst because the image is way to dark and it it hard to see the frame and half of it isn't there.

evaluation
The main theme was framing images such as natural or man made I photographed images of leaves, trees, water tree bark and man mead thing like cars or fencing or metals. Man- made texture was a theme I liked with cars fences, brickwork and plastic objects.
I thought the theme was good because I was able to explore different objects and textures that I would not usually take photographs of for example a river and flowing water . I enjoyed the man made texture as I like cars such as Mercedes, Audi, I captured these image in a landscape setting which allowed the images to show contrast of trees and the aluminum car.
Although I did like the theme it was not something I would have chosen to focus on. I can see that I was able to photograph different objects I prefer man made objects especially cars as I like the different body lines the styling things like that. But I'm not saying that I hate taking images of the rivers and berries in nature setting.
I feel the images I captured allowed me to be creative when using Photoshop.
I gain lots of knowledge when using the camera on a manual setting outside as I had to continuously change my setting and the angles I was capturing the images.
I like using photoshop on my images because I can make the images look better than what I could do with the camera its self. For example enhancing the colours and making the colours appear duller or brighter.
I preferred using photoshop as I can be creative and pick what, I also liked taking the photographs especially being able to go on location.
When capturing studios shoots I enjoyed setting up the props and photography equipment as I feel the images are good quality and clear as I was able to control the lighting.
I enjoyed going to Padly Gorge because of the river and the flowing water and the different textures that were in the surroundings. Also the trip allowed me to communicate with my peers and share ideas something that I feel doesn't happen as much in a class room setting.
I learned to use photoshop and I liked it even though I found it challenging at first and I did get frustrated with certain tools like the quick selection tool, until I worked out how to use it and I got the hang of it also I had to remember to snip my work which was something I kept forgetting to do. I can say I feel more confident using Photoshop and I ma able to follow a tutorial to learn new skills. I also have a better understanding of how Photoshop works.
I defiantly used a lot of camera settings during this project such as white balance, ISO depth of field and being able to use the rule of thirds in my work. As I always used manual setting on the camera my challenge was capturing moving water and not having a blurred photograph and have it clear rather than moving .
By using Weebly to display my work I feel makes my images look more professional and has a higher quality finish. I have set up a website before for another subject however Weebly is by far more professional.
I have learnt many skills in Photoshop such as layering, creating geometric shapes, changing colours and creating neon effects I have learnt how to use different tools and I feel confident and I would like to further enhance my Photoshop skills and learn even more.
I enjoyed the photoshop lessons the reason being I enjoyed the idea of taking a good photo and making it better how I would I like it to look painting optical illusion etc.
I feel that some of my photo shots and photoshop was good but obviously not all were amazing during lesson but my Weebly could do with some work more vibrant and working on it more and just visually improve it.
I didn't really encounter any problems other than the camera shake and the photographs coming out blurry and it annoyed me. I corrected the problem my using a tripod for the still life shoots and I for outdoor shoots I had to take the photo multiple times in order to get one that would work and come out right but when I did the end results looked good.
I learnt from my research to practice taking photos as the say practice makes perfect and obviously even though I have practiced even before I was doing photography I still need to improve and learn a lot learn more. Also to take lots of photographs as I may only get a few good images out of a full shoot.
If I could do something differently I would re-take some of my images again and make sure there not blurry and are in a good composition and a good angle and correct lighting as well as over all quality so photoshops would be easier to manipulate and enhance.
