statement of intent
I'm starting my project by taking inspiration from Tim Wallace who is unique for his car photography and I really admire his work and how it is portrayed lime with close ups of components or wide shots or next to something or half hidden and after I will hopefully advance the photo's in Photoshop and maybe add or take stuff away of change the style
The equipment I will use its the studio lighting and background and the camera is a canon DSLR and I will have the reflector placed so I get the lighting I will be changes the cameras settings throughout so the white balance will be 100 or auto depending on what I like and I will us the golden reflectors for a more warm feeling undertone and photoshop will be use to finalize the image

My focus will be cars I want to look at colours such as dark and light tones using bronze lighting for the images and maybe a pastel or retro style and use different background colours. I will take images of my model cars to begin with as I can control the position and angle better. This will allow me to create the outcome I would like, then I will experiment with different lighting and background.
My next step will be to take images of real cars. In my shoot I will take pictures of the bumpers the badges the grills the lights and try to get a nice and clear photograph. I will go to tracks like Olton park Donington and cars shows to capture many images I can use for my project.
I will then display my images in galleries and will refine my work using my best and worst.
I will then manipulate the pictures on photoshop to get an outcome I want and looks good and is the theme I was going for mirror of modification lightning and tile effects.
I have 5 months to complete this project and I aim to produce a gallery of my best pictures at the end of the time period, I would like to complete my initial research in the first 4 weeks and I will then focus on taking good pictures. that I will then improve using photoshop I will continue to take photographs until I am happy with the gallery's I have created. I will refine my work by deciding my best and worst through out my project as I find this as a good way to learn to improve.
I will annotate my works as well as sniping my process using photoshop as this will help show my ideas and thoughts I will take my peers and teachers criticisms and thoughts towards my work in to consideration. This will help me get a grasp on what I need to do and how to improve my work.

He has taken the image at a worms eye view in this case the camera was placed on the floor positioned looking up at the car as well a worms eye view he has cropped the photo at an angle this to me creates a leading line from the right hand corner to the center of the image where the car. The main focus is on the car, he has the wheels turned so you get a better look at the wheels.
The photograph is made up with the foreground being a tone of grey to dark which darkens the image, then it leads to the midground where the casino royal grey car has been placed on a light green background of grass with trees of darker greens leading to a cloudy gray atmosphere around the car. The hint of green gives a bit of colour contrast to the image which consists mainly of grey tones. The car is really shiny so you can see reflections in the paint work of the landscape in it. The use of colour makes you look at the car than the grey and dull background.
The rule of third has been used the car has been placed directly in the middle. A medium depth of field has been used as the background is slightly out of focus.
The lighting in this image is natural with it being an outdoor shoot, it seems to be edited slightly to give the car a lighter tone compared to everything else and the clouds seem to be Photoshop.
The car is clearly stationary so he didn't need a fast shutter speed white ballance is in the day light

This is connected to my work because I like the angle and lighting he does with the cars with the car being the centerpiece and brighter than the back ground. I am also very interested in cars in general and I like how his work looks and that it is good enough to be used in advertisement this is something I would like to do for my final project. I would like to create a gallery of final images that look like a magazine cover or something along those lines.
comment
I like his work because all though it is simple it is clearly very good and very easy to understand and the sort of angles he takes are very appealing to me and the fact he also dose closups of the cars with certain parts

context
Tom Shaxson is an innovative automotive and lifestyle photographer. Having been fortunate enough to grow up in the stunning Sussex countryside close to the Goodwood Motor Circuit, Tom has been able to fully immerse himself from a young age in his passion for anything automotive.
At the tender age of 21, Tom Shaxson has established himself a leading automotive photographer, predominantly specialising in classic cars and historic motorsport – a by-product of growing up within a stone’s throw from the Goodwood Motor Circuit. Since he burst onto the scene three years ago, he’s not only become a regular contributor to Classic Driver, but has also secured a residency as Goodwood Road & Racing’s lead photographer.
polarising filters for my lenses, are what I use a lot because They’re the ultimate accessories for automotive photography, because they remove the reflections on the car, increase the contrast and add a little saturation, too. Handily, they’re also relatively inexpensive compared to the other items in my kit bag!
Clients include: Goodwood - Classic Driver - Phillips Watches - Girardo and Co - Ferretti Group - Type7 - BMW UK - HR Owens

compostion
Tom shaxson is a life style photographer and I also like that sort of photography and his images are often quite vibrant and bright on the bodywork for the cars and the car is always the peace that draws your eyes like my images do and he talks the images from different angles like side or front left or right or interior shots that I like and want to copy as well the up-close shots were half the car is out of frame leaving the other half which I like as well with different weather conditions like with rain and using it to an advantage.
In this image the photographer has made the foreground out of focus and it shows that the colour green has been used which is a contrasting colour compared to the shiny yellow of the Ferrari making you focus on that, which has been placed in the center of the image, with trees and a white fence in the background. The car is horizontal in the image but the image has been taken in portrait this has helped frame the image and helps create the focus of the car. The photographer has tried to capture a real life image, to show that this fancy posh car can be parked outside your house. I feel the image has been captured for a magazine to help sell or promote the sales of the car. The idea of capturing an image of a car to be used as a magazine cover is inspiration I will take from this photographer.
The colours captured are green yellow purple and white which creates a summer feeling even though the colour of the sky is not in the image you can tell it has been taken in the day.

Toms Shaxson work relates and helps me develop my work because we use the same sort of angles as well as types of centerpiece and focus being the car as well as the use of black and white in certain images as well as vibrant coluors in others he inspires me to do more work and I like how he crops his shots like when it looks like its been takes from a phone or when the cars is only half in the shot or the image being taken from inside something through it to the car.

I like his work because it shows some really interesting and cool cars and the composition is just right along with the lighting not being to bright so your blind bur also not being to dell were you cant see it.

Here I have used this tutorial to create this neon light effect around my car model. I found it easy to follow and was not that time consuming, however I would of prefer if the bottom neon light was a bit more clearer along with the door mirror.

To create this I added the letters to the image and then cut out the background then changed the scale then I added a blue colour. I like the first image better than the actual outcome. I may create more when I have my own image of cars.

Here I have used photoshop to create an image inspired by David hockey I found a template he uses I then removed the back ground and erased it till you could see the car I then edited it by using the cameras raw filter tool to change the tempter and highlighting a few things so it is more easily visible.

By using photoshop I wanted to create a water reflection image of the car I have used the following tools such as lasso tool and the pen to draw around my image this enabled me to select the car and cut it out from the background, Then I used the gradient tool to make the lower part of the image more transparent. After I had duplicated the selected layer of the car, this then allowed me to use the transformed tool to flip the image to crate a mirror effect and aligned the size by using the transform scale and size tool. I have also used blur motion tool t create the wave effect around the edges. I think the final outcome came out ok however it could of worked better if it was a darker day.

Black and white filter on Photoshop
On Photoshop I have cropped my original photograph and I have added a black and white filter. I have not added my screen shoots as it was only one filter change that I used. I have created black and white images as I liked how Tim Wallace uses black and white in his work.

At the start the process was going nicely but I realized I didn't have enough time to do it probably near the end so I had to improvise so if I had enough time this could look a lot better but other than that I'm happy with it.

Evaluation
The main theme was car related images such as IRL and games or at car shows I photographed images of Chevy Toyotas Nissan dodge Ferraris Lamborghinis McLaren to Bugatti's and engine bays on the cars or the paint and interior. car texture was a theme I liked with cars like the paint or stitching or the engines or the lines and designs of them.
I thought the theme was good because I was able to explore different objects and textures that I would not usually take photographs of for example a grill or stitching. I enjoyed it because I was able to take pictures of cars such as Mercedes, Audi, Ferraris I captured these image in a landscape setting which allowed the images to show contrast of the aluminum car.
I enjoyed the theme it was something I would have chosen to focus on. I can see that I was able to photograph different objects that I prefer man made objects like the cars as I like the different body lines the styling things like that. But I'm not saying that I hate taking images of the rivers and berries in nature setting.
I feel the images I captured allowed me to be creative when using Photoshop.
I gain lots of knowledge when using the camera on a manual setting outside as I had to continuously change my setting and the angles I was capturing the images.
I like using photoshop on my images because I can make the images look better than what I could do with the camera its self. For example enhancing the colours and making the colours appear duller or brighter.
I preferred using photoshop as I can be creative and pick what, I also liked taking the photographs especially being able to go on location.
When capturing studios shoots I enjoyed setting up the props and photography the cars as I feel the images are good quality and clear as I was able to control the lighting.
I enjoyed going to car shows because of the diverse verity of cars and the amount there was and the different textures that were in the them from rust to million pound paint. Also the trip allowed me to share ideas something that I feel doesn't happen as much in a class room setting.
I learned to use photoshop and I liked it even though I found it challenging at first and I did get frustrated with certain tools like the quick selection tool, until I worked out how to use it and I got the hang of it also I had to remember to snip my work which was something I kept forgetting to do. I can say I feel more confident using Photoshop and I am able to follow a tutorial to learn new skills. I also have a better understanding of how Photoshop works.
I defiantly used a lot of camera settings during this project such as white balance, ISO depth of field and being able to use the rule of thirds in my work. As I always used manual setting on the camera my challenge was capturing moving cars and not having a blurred photograph and have it clear rather than moving .
By using Weebly to display my work I feel makes my images look more professional and has a higher quality finish. I have set up a website before for another subject however Weebly is by far more professional.
I have learnt many skills in Photoshop such as layering, creating geometric shapes, changing colors and creating neon effects I have learnt how to use different tools and I feel confident and I would like to further enhance my Photoshop skills and learn even more.
I researched Tom Shaxson because I like his outdoor photos and the colors and how he is able to make a photo to look like a painting witch is something I like.Tim Wallace is another photographer I really like, the photographs he takes using small depth of field and the added background also the interior photos with all the details. Michael Furman is the last one I researched, his style of images in black and white but the main piece being color is what caught my eye as the use of lighting highlights the object creating a outline of the image. The use of lighting is what I tried to use in my work.
I enjoyed the photoshop lessons the reason being I enjoyed the idea of taking a good photo and making it better how I would I like it to look painting optical illusion etc.
I feel that some of my photo shots and photoshop was good but obviously not all were amazing during lesson but my Weebly could do with some work more vibrant and working on it more and just visually improve it.
I didn't really encounter any problems other than the camera shake and the photographs coming out blurry and it annoyed me. I corrected the problem my using a tripod for the still life shoots and I for outdoor shoots I had to take the photo multiple times in order to get one that would work and come out right but when I did the end results looked good.
I learnt from my research to practice taking photos as the say practice makes perfect and obviously even though I have practiced even before I was doing photography I still need to improve and learn a lot learn more. Also to take lots of photographs as I may only get a few good images out of a full shoot.
If I could do something differently I would re-take some of my images again and make sure there not blurry and are in a good composition and a good angle and correct lighting as well as over all quality so photoshops would be easier to manipulate and enhance.
